GAME BACKGROUND: SIMS is a life simulation game that allows the player to create a character to live and work in a community. The player has the ability to control the actions of his or her character by making choices and decisions that ultimately affect the characters destiny.
LESSON PLAN SYNOPSIS:Although there are many facets of SIMS this lesson focuses on the economic concept of how work provides income for purchase goods and services. This week long lesson is introduced with the question: What do you know about money and its ijmportance in getting us what we need and want? Students work in small groups Once the students have given their answers they are introduced to the game and help create a SIMS character. The class as a whole decides on the dreams and aspirations of the character, not to mention their career goals. Throughout the week the students cover concepts such as money, needs, wants, goods, and services, while each day they follow the character in the SIMS game to see how its choices affected these concepts.
