After I realized that some of my students have very cool experiences outside of the classroom. I wanted to find some way to integrate them into my teaching and share their experiences with others. So, my class made Wilson (from the movie Castaway) using red paint, an old volleyball and a hand. When students are heading somewhere neat, or doing something others have not, they take Wilson and the camera with them to document their experience. Then, once back in the classroom, students are responsible for uploading their pictures to the website and then blogging about their experience. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT MY STUDENTS DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT WRITING! We are currently using my personal digital camera, but I would love to upgrade to a Flip and give them the capability to capture video too! Wilson has been to Wisconsin Dells, Kentucky, Florida, school assemblies, sporting events, outside the Oprah studios, to a pumpkin patch, a girl scout meeting, and many more places. My students absolutely love this show and tell of where they have been and what they have done.
