THEME: Veteran's Day American social studies about persons who lived or served our country during wartime and/or current events regarding war and the effects on everyday life.

LESSON TOPIC: Why should these persons be remembered?
OBJECTIVES:
Language Skills:
• Speaking/Listening: Students will interview family and friends that have lived or served America in wartime. They may also choose to portray a war hero.
• Reading/Writing : Students will develop a questionnaire with 10 most important questions to ask after researching the war.
Technology : Students will learn to use backgrounds, voice tone and lighting to make a podcast of their interview. Research on a specific war hero.

Content Skills: Students will learn and share knowledge from the interviews.

Thinking/Study skills: Students will compare life to 2012. List events in chronological order. Use reference materials. Become aware of prior and current countries at war. Identify reasons why countries have wars. Identify the affects that war has on people. Identify reasons why people serve our country.

MATERIALS: paper, pencil, computer with camera.

MOTIVATION: Ask student what they know about war. Ask why do people participate in wars. Compare their life in America now to life during a war. Ask if any have relatives serving in a war currently.

PRESENTATION: Students will interview person while recording the interview, use a photo and/or read the questions and answers while recording. Some students may want to role play a war hero.

REVIEW/EVALUATION: Teacher will monitor students. Students will be graded using a rubric to include the following:
Student includes information about the time period.
Information on the countries involved.
Questions ask about affects on people and their families.
Information on the role this person had in the war.
Explains why this person should be honored and remembered.
