My name is Mrs. Kessler and I am an 8th grade Math teacher at Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School. This is my second year here and it has been nothing but wonderful. The students welcomed me with open hearts and minds and really made me feel like I belong! I couldn't wait to start teaching them and see what wonderful and exciting things I can learn from them and they can learn from me. Unfortunately, the resources available to my students and I are limited; therefore the learning experiences in my classroom are lacking application, authenticity and rigor. When learning math, it is essential the students see the connections to the real-world around them and create meaning experiences that will stay with them throughout their educational careers. With the proper resources and curriculum, I can help the students create these moments that will foster their development as effective, independent, and powerful thinkers. Currently my students have access to only 1 desktop computer in my classroom, therefore I am asking for 12 laptops for my classroom so my students to work independently and collaboratively exploring the math concepts we learn throughout the year. The laptops will allow the students to access educational programs in the classroom and explore the world of mathematics in a whole new way.
