My team of teachers have roughly 150 students a semester. We have assigned 30 laptops that must be used among four core classes. Two of my classes have more than 30 students, so I do not even have enough laptops for these classes. Anytime one of these classes conducts a computer-based project, the laptops are not available. Also, when we conduct various levels of testing (MAPs, SBAC, CRTs) the laptops are not available. This creates a need for a dedicated set of technology to remain in the ELA classroom as I try to move into a 21st century learning environment that allows students to have access to the online environment more frequently. I am looking to supplement my classroom with Chrome books that will remain in the ELA environment to access online activities such as Google Classroom, Powtoons video creation, Classcraft, and our classroom blog on EDUBlogs. Our blog has ceased to exist due to the lack of computers and access for students. Many students to not have the abilities to access the internet outside of the classroom, and they have not been able to complete online assignments.
I am fundraising for 35 units of Chrome books and a charging storage station. The students and I use all web-based programs so we do not need the ability to install 3rd party software as with laptops.
