I recently transferred to my school's art department from the English department upon the retirement of a phenomenal art teacher. Stepping into her shoes is going to be difficult, but I want to bring exciting lessons and updates to the Airline art department. I am primarily seeking to update the technology in the art department. I recently had a Chromebook funded through Donor's Choose. However, one computer is not enough for the vision I have of bringing this Art Department into 2018 with any technology I can locate for my students. The Airline Art Department consists of three teachers due to the growing rate of students interested in taking art courses. We offer art 1, art 2, art 3, art 4, and art AP. Each class period is 90 minutes consisting of as high as 33 students per class period. While the art department is rapidly growing, the technology needs are not being met. We strive to provide the best courses for our students, but there are some materials we need to provide for our students that are not within our art department's budget as many of our students are low income and unable to pay their $20 art fee. However, with the resources we do have, we encourage students to spill over outside the classrooms painting murals in the hallways and on the lockers. We encourage them to enter contests and exhibitions as well as to try dual enrollment courses in art at our local community college.
