Our school is located in a poor socio-economic community, and it is considered to be a low-performing school. The physical environment can have tremendous effects on learning and teacher morale. Because we have no PTA or funding support, we are trying to raise money to renovate part of the gated grounds. The courtyard area is a main passageway for all students, faculty, and visitors. It is full of old wood and broken tables. It has no shade trees or landscaping. It is presently an area that is unused by the students. Since the majority of the students at my school are considered to be at risk, and my self-contained classroom is located directly adjacent to the courtyard, I would like to develop an interactive musical garden area using recycled items. I would also like to include new plantings, shade trees, and a picnic area for outdoor learning. Individuals donating to the project will be listed in the program during our dedication ceremony in the Spring of 2019, as well as in the newspaper. The dedication will appear live on local television with main sponsors listed as well.
