My school participates in the Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) Program, but many of our students are not reading at grade level. We utilize parent volunteers to work with small groups of students or to provide one-on-one reading help. We need two iPad2 devices to use with these students to help them improve their reading comprehension skills and get them actively engaged in reading through the use of ebooks, reading apps, and read-aloud features so that they can be motivated to read independently. By integrating the technology features with self-selected fiction books and informational texts, we can motivate students to improve reading skills and become life-long learners while helpling them master the Common Core Curriculum Standards.
