Through digital stories, people speak out for themselves, for their families, and for their community. People are empowered to give voice to their most heartfelt stories and to share these stories with people throughout the world.

Students will be challenged to create a digital story. The process they will follow will be: 1. Plan and write a personal narrative. 2. Record the story as a narration 3. Prepare and use images and audio to tell your story 4. Add animations and transitions to create the effect

Students will select a story topic from the following topics: 1. A special place?
2. A special person in your life? 3. A special treasure 4. A special moment / event / adventure?

After selecting a topic, students will plan their story using a story map provided by the teacher. Students must be reminded that they are writing a person narrative. Their story should take about 3 minutes to read, approximately 20 sentences long.

Students will then collect artifacts for their narrative Artifacts will include pictures and musicial recordings to accompany their story. With the artifacts they will devleop their story into a script.

When students are finished they will present their stories to the class. Students will complete a self evaulation and will be graded on a teacher rubric.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Social Studies

Digital storytelling gives students opportunity to develop understandings about personal history. A digital storytelling project involving individuals within the community may in turn lead to knowledge of local history, and concepts about diversity.

Portfolios: Stories of Learning

Within any curriculum area, storytelling projects may be used to encourage students to make sense of their learning experiences. In telling their personal stories of what they have come to know, students engage in the kind of reflection and exploration that leads to understanding.
