Keywords: Drama, Reading Comprehension, English
Subject(s): Writing, Special Needs, Reading
Grade 9
School: Jacksonville High School, Jacksonville, AL
Planned By: Leigh Boatwright
Original Author: Leigh Boatwright, Jacksonville
Students will read a short story. I will then divide my students into groups and let them create a drama of what they read. The students can be creative in using props but they must write out what each person is doing to recreate the short story. The students will then use the flip camera to video their reading comprehension drama. After all groups have videoed we will then watch the reading comprehension dramas.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Writing portion could be graded also in English class. I could also make the short stories either relate to math, science or history to cross the curriculum.
Follow-Up
I would then let them critique and find the best video. The best video would then be presented to other classes or broadcast on our TV station.
Materials: ESL, Reading, Tripods, Flip Video
Other Items: 1 Flip Video, $150.00 each, total of $150.00
