Throughout the year students will be gathering materials to show their progress in learning the goals and objectives from the Individualized Education Plan. Instead of using a binder to store the materials, technology will be used. Students love using technology. Students will have access to scanners, computers, cameras, camcorders, and powerpoint to create their own educational display.
1. First, students will create an "all about me" section. This section contains their likes, dislikes, learning styles, hobbies, favorites, hopes, and dreams. They will be able to design, add pictures, and be creative. 2. Second, students will gather, enter, or scan various work they have accomplished for the goal documentation. For example, a student with a reading fluency issue would use the camcorder or digital voice recorder to record them reading a passage. This would be included in the portfolio. Or a student with math calculation issues can scan a math test into his/her portfolio. Or a student with social interaction issues can be video taped interacting at lunch. 3. Students would type and reflect on their learning, their success, and their struggles. 4. Throughout the year, work will be added and reflected upon. This will be a great tool to use a parent-teacher conferences and annual IEP meetings. 5. At the end of the year, students will be able to burn their portfolios onto a CD to keep for memories and to help teachers/parents/student know the student's learning levels for the fall.
This lesson requires the use of different types of technology, but is a vital part of students' learning. Technology is the future and our students need to be using it in their education. |
