Music Research Project “Your Favorite Music”
Description of Project:
This project is a chance for students to research their favorite style of music. Students will have time in class to research and prepare a presentation. Students may do this project on their own or with a partner.
Research:
Students must dig for information! They will be allowed to use the Internet to dig for or find information on their style of music. Students must then decide what information from the research will be used in their presentation.
What should be included in the presentation?
1. History of Music Where does their style of music originate or begin?
2. Favorite band/group/singer How did their favorite group/singer form? What is their personal and musical history? What are 10 songs that they perform? What interesting information can the student find about the group that is special or odd? What does the group/singer look like?
3. Time Period of the Music What time period does the band/singer exist in? Have the student tell about that time period. What world and U.S. events were occurring? What movies, books, fads, styles, cars, famous people existed?
4. “WOW” Factor: A “WOW” factor is something that makes a presentation memorable. Some students choose to dress in the style of their music. Some choose to bring and share a singer’s favorite snack. Some choose to teach a style of dance. Some choose to play an instrument. Some choose to give a quiz to the class. What will the student's “WOW” factor be? How will their presentation be memorable to the group?
5. Sound: Students need to make a sample of the style of music that they present. They can use ipods, CD’s, or tapes. Students can also create a Garage Band song on the computer that is in the same style of the music presented.
6. Video: Students will organize all information found and record themselves onto flip videos. Students will be encouraged to work on good presentation style. This includes speaking clearly, encouraging creativity, and involving all members of the group. Videos will then be presented to the class!
Partner Work If a student chooses to work with a partner they should make sure that each equally shares research and video taping responsibilities! Encourage students to choose a high quality partner who will assure them of a good grade on their project!
This is a very fun project that can be very rewarding and enjoyable for students. Encouraging creativity and allowing for room for the student's own ideas to be used is very essential to the creation of a great end project! |
