Learning Objectives: Students will be able to understand the production and the issues that relate to running a campaign.


Students will:
• Use the Flip Video with computers to film, edit, and post to the Internet.
• Develop critical thinking and writing skills.
• Analyze political issues.
• Develop oral and written communication skills
• Self and peer assess in the areas of critical thinking, writing, and communication.
• Develop a personal understanding of being a responsible citizen locally and globally.

Lesson 1: Background knowledge.
Show 4 or so Videos on campaigns. Discuss all of the aspects that make the political ad effective.

Lesson 2-4:
Break up the students so that you have a good mix of skills in each group. Then have them fill out the Candidate platform. Have them figure out their belief systems and what they stand for. Give group time to edit the videos they created. Also have the students work on a written speech.

Lesson 5:
Students will present their Campaign Ad to the class. Students will evaluate each other’s ads.

Assessment:
Completion of Campaign Ad
Completion of Candidate Survey
Completion of written speech.

Flip Video Cameras and accessories
iMovie Software

Outcomes:
Students will:
• Have a better understanding of Political System.
• Understand that they have the ability to affect change in their world both locally and globally
• Improve their communication skills, both oral and written
• Improve their social interaction skills
• Learn to use a camcorder and editing software
• Learn to complete a video project from inception to presentation
