Throughout the year we collaborate with NASA for science fair, biographies, earth/space unit, rock unit, STEM presentations and technology curriculum. The flip cameras would be useful for all these lessons because each first grader is able to compile videos and upload them to our youtube channel worldtechkids.
For the science fair we film all the science demonstrations that we do with the lessons sent by NASA. We are the first science project to include video into our regional award winning science projects. We have focused on bilingual NASA astronaut Jose Hernandez. We have opened communication with him and have even received an autograph copy from him and STS-128 mission that he flew with. Students would be able to film questions and topics we have studied to send to bilingual NASA engineers that we have worked with in the past. The flip cameras can also be integrated into our language arts unit because the students film each other reading and acting out stories during class. Our classroom is also and inclusion class that includes an extremely gifted student with cerebral palsy that benefits from educational technology especially touch screens. We also have an autistic student that is a savant with technology and has been empowered through the use of technology in the classroom.
