School: Johnson-Brock Jr Sr High School, Johnson , NE
Planned By: Lori Broady
Original Author: Lori Broady, Johnson
Objective: The learner will use digital technology to record personal stories that directly relate to the class objective. (Example: In American History classes the students will interview individuals to recall World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Woodstock, or other events. In Sociology classes, students will record aspects of society specific to each unit of study)

Direct Instruction: Learners will first be given specific readings and/or lecture over the topic. They will be instructed how best to record interviews and scenes and will practice in the classroom to make certain that the students are comfortable with the Flip Video Camera.

Modeling: The teacher will show specific examples of interviews that he/she has completed.

Assessment: Students will be assesed on their interviews based on criteria outlined in a rubric. The rubric will be specific to the class. For instance in American History the student will need to submit the name of the interviewee, the topic of the interview, and a list of 25-30 questions. These questions will be based on research over the topic that includes a minimum of 3 sources that are documented in MLA citations. The student will also be graded on the ability to download the video to either SchoolTube or YouTube in order to keep a permanent record of the data collected. In Sociology the student will be required to keep a folder with the clips showing various aspects of society, these will need to be compiled into a final project which supports the lessons that have been covered in class.
Comments
I can also envision these cameras being used for students who travel to record trips to various locations. These can then be utilized in the Geography Classes.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
The students could take the video that is created in Social Studies and edit it in English class as their create a more formal video that includes a script to support the information. They can then have the assistance of the Speech instructor in Speech class to make their final project even more professional.
