Planned By: Michelle Eichelberger
Original Author: Michelle Eichelberger, Mc Connellsbg
Students will collaborate on an eBook for the Chemistry laboratory. Part of this eBook will contain a section on proper lab techniques/procedures. Students will be assigned to research and demonstrate proper techniques for the following:
Using an electronic balance
Lighting a Bunsen burner
Setting up for a gravity filtration
Setting up for a vacuum filtration
How to dilute an acid
Decanting
Heating a sample in a crucible
Measuring liquids (graduated cylinder and buret)
Working with liquid reagents
Titration
Generating & collecting gases
Using PASCO probeware

The students will use iMovie to edit their video. Once completed, the video will be exported for the eBook. The eBook will be created using Pages on a Mac. Each student will be responsible for editing at least one video. Videos will go through a peer review process with a rubric before publishing.

Students will work collaboratively via Google Docs to create a skit to illustrate the importance of lab safety and knowing where the safety equipment is located. Each student will storyboard their assigned safety topic. The video clips will be put together to create one safety video via iMovie. The video will be exported and added to the chemistry lab manual eBook.

Through the course of the research, students will maintain record of all sources used for both the lab techniques and the safety video.
