During Meet the Teacher night at the beginning of the school year, first grade students and their moms pose for a picture without knowing why. Each photo consists of a closeup shot of student and mom. Then, in April, students brainstorm and write a sentence or two about what their mom means to them. Students rehearse and film in different locations, for example, playground, cafeteria, classroom, etc. what they want to say about their moms. All photos, powerpoint slides saved as jpegs and videos are uploaded into MovieMaker. Place the data in this order, each child's name on the powerpoint slide using Word Art, his/her photo with mom and the student's video. For Mothers Day, students put on a Mothers Day Tea with students dressed up in fancy clothes and serve cookies and juice to their moms. After that, the teacher shows the video and each student presents his/her mom a wrapped copy of the video for her present. There is not a dry eye in the room! The kids absolutely love this project!
