After reading The Well by Mildred Taylor (a novel about an African American family in 1910 Mississippi) as a class we divided the book up into 8 scenes. The groups of 2 or 3 wrote a description of the scene. Next they used poster board to create a background for their scene. I photographed each poster. They then created paper cut out puppets to move around the scene. We painted some cotton gloves chromakey green so they would not show up against the green screen we have and the puppets would look like they were animated. I used a Flip Ultra camera to film the students performing their scene. One student acted as a narrator and the other moved the figures through the scene. This was hard to do since they were acting against a green screen. I then took the video footage and put it in front of the digital photo I had taken of their posters. Lastly I added a beginning title scene with music and put it all together in order as an iMovie project which is now on our class website.
