During a week when the student's were learning about the -ap word family in our reading curriculum we decided that to help us learn we would create an -ap rap. The steps of the lesson, which were created throughout the entire week, are listed below.

-The students brainstormed words that were part of the -ap word family.
-The students then typed the words into a list during their center time.
-The students voted to pair certain words together.
-During the next three days we came up with couplets for each word set.
-Students decided that since we were performing a rap we needed props. They decided that our props should be posters with the words on them and necklaces.
-The teacher wrote out the words on the posters and the kids decorated them.
-The necklaces had a large circle in the middle with -ap on it and then they made paper chains to connect to the circle. Each link on the paper chain had a word from the -ap rap on it.
-Once all the words to the rap were written the students help the teacher to pick out places around the school to video. Each couplet of the rap was performed in a different location.
-Students took turns filming with the Flip camera.
-All video was loaded onto the teacher's computer.
-Using Windows Movie Maker the video, was imported, words and background music were added.
-The finished video was uploaded to the class blog to be shared with parents, fellow teachers and students.

The blog website is listed below since the video has not been uploaded to youtube, schooltube, or vimeo.
