Brief description of group and subtopics (include ages for flyer): Learning Legos – Few toys have inspired creativity as the simple building toy LEGO! In this group we will learn about the history of Legos, learn to follow and write directions, shoot a short lego movie and (of coarse), create some wonderful structures! Each student must bring a supply of their own Legos.



Ages 7-11 Group Limit: None


Goals for the group - The students will: compare, contrast, and sort Legos.
Create and read a graph using Legos.
Present an item from home to present to the group (based on the Lego theme)
Review several Lego movies on youtube.com.
In small groups (3-5 students) , plan, shoot, edit and play a short Lego movie.
Journal their daily activities and experiences.
Create a marble ramp – teat – and make modifications. Then test for height and distance.
Read and summarize the article, "Kids collect LEGOs for New Orleans"
Plan and create an artistic sculpture with legos.
Follow a lego plan and create a lego plan for a vehicle.
Create a lego boat - test - and rebuild.
Read several books on Legos - follow designs.

How will the goals be assessed? Describe or attach assessment tool/rubric.
Teacher observation and questioning of student participation in group discussion, presentations, and individual written work samples. A list of activities and short narrative will be attached to the journal and work samples.


Describe what will take place for your group during Thursday night sharing: A class museum and demonstration of group projects, research, and sharing.



What supplies and/or fees will be needed? (List cost if appropriate.) Donated lego sets and each child should bring their own set to use in class.

Comments
This is a copy of the actual form we submit to our director prior to the group starting. The child chooses their group based on a flyer of several unit descriptions that goes home.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This whole unit is cross-curriculum, based on the learning intellegences of howard Gardner.
Follow-Up
The group is followed up with an Interest Group Sharing Night, where each group makes a presentation to their families.
