Brief description of group and subtopics (include ages for flyer): Learning Legos – Few toys have inspired creativity as the simple building toy LEGO! In this group we will learn about the history of Legos, learn to follow and write directions, shoot a short lego movie and (of coarse), create some wonderful structures! Each student must bring a supply of their own Legos.
Ages 7-11 Group Limit: None
Goals for the group - The students will: compare, contrast, and sort Legos. Create and read a graph using Legos. Present an item from home to present to the group (based on the Lego theme) Review several Lego movies on youtube.com. In small groups (3-5 students) , plan, shoot, edit and play a short Lego movie. Journal their daily activities and experiences. Create a marble ramp – teat – and make modifications. Then test for height and distance. Read and summarize the article, "Kids collect LEGOs for New Orleans" Plan and create an artistic sculpture with legos. Follow a lego plan and create a lego plan for a vehicle. Create a lego boat - test - and rebuild. Read several books on Legos - follow designs.
How will the goals be assessed? Describe or attach assessment tool/rubric. Teacher observation and questioning of student participation in group discussion, presentations, and individual written work samples. A list of activities and short narrative will be attached to the journal and work samples.
