Objectives: The Student’s will:

• Read the chapters, make story predictions, answer chapter questions and complete a post reading reflection.
• Read aloud, in small groups, and silently. Answer questions in a large group.
• Bring an item from home, related to our theme (for example – a radio, a picture of a parrot, a home made drawing of the characters. Internet research on the author, etc), to present to the group. Students will have the opportunity to take questions and comments from their peers.
• Create a cover for their written work, using only colored paper, scissors, and glue (no – pencils or other writing utensils) based on the cover of the book.
• In small groups, act out a scene from the book. Critique each other’s work.
• As a whole group, compare and contrast a video show and radio show. Record the results of the discussion in a Venn diagram.
• Create a “Video Fifth Grade” based on the radio show “Kids View” in the book.
-As a whole group, discuss what jobs need to be done to create a radio show. (Sound effects, set designer, story teller, hosts, videographer, editor, director, etc)
-Each student will write an idea for the show.
-in small groups create different “sketches” for the show.
-rehearse the show and critique the performances of the other students
