School: Logan Twp Elem School, Logan Twp, NJ
Planned By: Barry Schechter

During the four week rotation class, students will brainstorm and analyze their ideas of what is feasible to photograph and create within the classroom. Once they have selected an idea, they will use a story board to lay out their ideas in a sequential and logical order. Then, using digital cameras, they will take pictures of their objects and create tiny movements of those objects. Once completed with shooting their scene, they download the pictures onto the computers and use software to squeeze them together to make a stop-motion film.
Currently, the students are using very old cameras with no zoom to take these pictures. We are also utilizing Windows Movie Maker software although it is not really meant for such an endeavor.
Comments
I am a language art teacher who is expanding into this elective "flex time" course and I am not sure what software package would most benefit the students who enroll in this course.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Character education themes in the movies, history themes, science themes, robotics or Lego themes can all be used. These digital shorts can enhance any subject area as a culminating project.
