School: Sarasota School-Arts & Science, Sarasota, FL
Planned By: Carlos Hernandez
Original Author: Carlos Hernandez, Sarasota
Expected student gains:
1. To work cooperatively, in small groups, in order to plan and create a 3 to 5 minute video presentations of science concepts discussed in class.
2. To research additional information about their topic.
3. To successfully edit and upload their videos on a website.

Lesson
1. Warm up- Students will work in groups to come up with three real world examples of Newton's Laws of Motion.
2. Discussion- Students will discuss within their groups which of their ideas would work best to illustrate Newton's law of motion.
3. Create a storyboard- Students will create a story board of how they will plan on showing the idea on video.
4. Begin filming- Once storyboards have been approved by the teacher, students will begin filming their videos.
5. Present projects- Students will present their work in class as well as posting their videos online, via our school's webpage. Students will be graded on clarity and neatness, planning, use of time, cooperation, content, and creativity.
Comments
Students have currently made digital animations using the Powerpoint program and have always asked if they could do videos showing real world examples of Newton's Laws of Motion in action. Many students have also shown an interest in creating clay animation projects for their videos.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Our school's technology and visual arts teachers are on board for helping students with this project. Students will also join with other disciplines and produce interdisciplinary videos of concepts learned in more than one class. For example, science students will take concepts of speed, velocity, and force and combine these concepts with martial art techniques to see real world science in action.Student videos will be used as part of their chapter review.
Follow-Up
Students will peer evaluate each other's videosto se which group will receive top honrs for their presentation. We will then have an "Oscars" style award ceremony for our students and parents to come and watch the videos created by their student.
