Students will be introduced to Public Service Announcements by looking at examples available on TV, radio, and internet.
Day 1 Discuss with class the purpose of PSAs and why we should do one for our school.
Day 2 Look at examples and discuss why they are impacted by the strong message in PSAs. Develop groups and beginning brainstorming ideas.
Homework: Watch the evening TV for any PSAs to share with the class tomorrow.
Day 3 Continue brainstorming and begin working on storyboard ideas .(the internet has numerous examples of storyboards and the teacher should find one that works for their age group of students)
Day 4-8 Assign cameras to groups and provide instruction on use of camera. Highlight expectations for groups. I split the class so that not all are out filming at the same time. After the first day, the rotate filming and working on the computers until they finish the filming process.
During this time and after each group has filmed some, the teacher needs to instruct the students on downloading, editing and completing the project. I do this is two consecutive days; while the one group is out I instruct the other group and then the next day I do it again.
Day 9-10 Finish the project on the computers by adding titles, credits, sound if needed and editing any poor camera shots.
Day 11 View the finished products in class. In my building, I have daily announcements so I would show the PSAs to the entire school; selecting one each day for viewing.
