Working with a partner the students are given ten unkown minerals. Using the Crystal Guide App on the Galaxy Tab they are to correctly identify each mineral based on the following characteristics: color, crystal shape, streak, and hardness. Once all of the groups have identified their minerals they will choose one mineral and share its characteristics/properties with the entire class.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students can create Power Point presentations about a mineral and the base elements that is contains.
Follow-Up
Once the students have indentified the minerals and chose one, using the Periodic Droid App they can idenify the base elements and the properties of that element. They can also state the various uses for that element and where it can be found.
