For this project, students would work in collaborative groups. Each group would be assigned a historical period or event that they will be responsible for teaching to the class. The group would then research and identify important events, settings, and historical figures that are key to understanding the assigned period or event. Then the group will write a script that includes stage directions, dialogue, setting, and numerous characters in order to inform about their assigned topic. Once the script is complete, the groups would perform and videotape their interpretation of the period or event. The videos would then be edited by the group and shown to the class.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This lesson could be applied easily in an English classroom.
Follow-Up
Students will complete an expository writing assignment on at least two videos that were not theirs.
