Literature Circles Meeting using Subtext

First Five: Have students open their books in Subtext and review the reading from the night before. If there are any additional ideas or thoughts they have about the reading, they should add them into the ebook during this time.

Ask students to meet with their Lit Circle groups. In their meetings, students should:
*summarize the reading from the night before
*discuss the questions they each created while reading
*each identify an idea or thread in the conversation that they'd like to think/write more about

After 15 or so minutes in the meeting, ask students to open their laptops and create a new Google Doc. It should be titled "Lit Circle Meeting Response #1." In their document, ask students to write a paragraph that agrees with, disagrees with or complicates the idea/thread they identified at the end of the lit circle meeting. The paragraph should have a clear topic sentence, at least three correctly cited details/quotes, and clear commentary.

When students are finished writing, ask them to share their documents with you and their other literature circle members.

HW: Log into Google Docs and comment on the writing of your fellow groupmates. Consider how well they stay true to the ideas presented in the meeting, and whether or not they truly build upon what they heard. Leave 2-3 constructive comments on their writing.
