The book will be presented and the child will be asked to find the book on the iPad.
As each page is read, the child will find the corresponding button on the screen. When they push the button, it will say what it is, for example, "brown bear".
Since this book is repetitive, there will also be buttons that say, "I see" with a picture pointing to themself, and "looking at me" with a picture of eyes. This will encourage expanded utterances using assistive technology. As they become familiar with the book, it is expected they would push the buttons in sequence, 'I see a brown bear looking at me."
After the story is read, the child will use the application to answer color questions, "What color is the horse?" The will also be encouraged to make animal sounds both verbally and using pre-programmed buttons within the application.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Can also be used in the regular education classroom with typically developing students.
Follow-Up
