School: Eisenhower Elementary School, Russell, PA
Planned By: Jennifer Morrison
Original Author: Jennifer Morrison, Russell
1. Students will sit on the rug to discuss what they learned in our 1st grade classroom today.
2. Review a poster hanging on front board: Twitter Language: Tweets- what you hope to say to people. Handle: @ - your user name Hashtag: # - helps us group posts about the same topic Followers: - people who are interested in what you have to say.
3. Remind students of the basics of Social Media: We only use our initials to protect our identity. We don't follow everyone even if they follow us. We only post and read on Social Media when a trusted adult is watching us. Only students with parental permission will have their picture shared on Twitter.
4. Allow students a minute to reflect about their day. Ask students to share with the class what they learned today. As students being to share their ideas list them on the whiteboard along with the child's name. (example: We learned the /th/ sound today-S.L. ; The only time you are allowed to stick your tongue out at your teacher is when you say the /th/ sound- B.T.; We learned how to add doubles today- P.K. )
5. Ask students if there are any upcoming events we should remind our parents about. (example: There is No School on Friday- E.G.)
6. The teacher will discuss with the students any upcoming events or reminders. (example: permission slips are due on Monday- Mrs. Morrison)
7. At the beginning of the year, the teacher will use a Tablet to Tweet the studentís ideas on the class Twitter page along with the studentís initials while being projected for all students to see. If a picture was taken during class time of the activity being discussed the picture can be uploaded. (example: share a photo of students sticking their tongues out when learning the /th/ sound). As the year progresses students will be given the opportunity to use the Tablet to type the daily Tweets from the Rug (projected for all to see).
8. The class will then use the Tablet to look at other first grade Twitter pages to compare what they were learning about today with what we learned today.
9. On Twitter Tuesday we will collaborate with other first grade classes by posting a question for discussion. (example: What is your favorite, No David, book by David Shannon?)
