Today's youth are growing up in a digitally connected world. The workers of tomorrow need different skills and have different opportunities than their parents did when they were thinking of a career path. Some job opportunities at that time no longer exist in today’s world, while others have greatly changed in looks and skill sets. Students today are developing foundational work skills that will be needed in the 2020 workplace. Twelve skills that employers feel will be needed are:
Verbal Communication Teamwork Commercial Awareness Analysis & Investigation Initiative/Self Motivation Drive Written Communication Planning & Organizing Flexibility Time Management Global Skills Leadership/Management
Assignment: Each student will be given two of the above skills to define and research (as it pertains to a work environment). They also need to identify what types of technology could be used to help them with this skill. The last thing they will need to do is present ways that their school, classes, types of projects, etc. can help them develop that skill.
Students will need to prepare slides (Google Slides) and also a verbal presentation of their skills. Notes for the verbal presentation should be typed in the notes section of each slide. All sources will need to be provided on a Works Cited slide at the end of the presentation. Please refer to the resource manual on how to prepare a proper slide presentation.
Each student was then given copies of the slides for one skill to review and edit for the class presentation. Slide style and font style and sizes were decided on as a class. Each student then practiced presenting that slide in an overall class presentation that was given to a panel of community leaders and business people. |
