School: Imagine Prep Surprise, Surprise, AZ
Planned By: Alixandria Holcomb
Original Author: Alixandria Holcomb, Surprise
1. Students will read the novel "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. During the reading of the novel, students will be doing various activities using digital resources.
2. Once students have reached "Old Major's Speech," they will learn about ethos, logos, and pathos.
3. Students will then analyze MLKJ's "I have a Dream" speech and John Lennon's "Imagine" lyrics. Students will have to compare the rhetoric used in each of the three works.
4. Using Soundcloud, students will have to create and publish a podcast in which they have written a speech discussing their dreams for the world using the three rhetorical devices.
5. Students will have to share their speech using Google Docs.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Work with the journalism class to have them link the podcasts to the school's digital newspaper.
Follow-Up
Have students create a podcast and Google Doc portfolio of writing assignments in order to track progress through the year.
