Growing a Garden

At the beginning of the week, we started a unit on planting a garden. We learned what goes in a garden and what plants need. In math, we learned about sets of 10 and adding 10 more or less. At the end of the week, we used everything we had learned to plant a garden on paper. The students had to spend only $7.00. They had to have 7 different types of vegetables in their gardens. Each plant costs .10. They had to draw their garden and label each row and tally up how many plants were in each row and what it costs. Then they had to come up with a grand total. I put them in groups. When one group finished, I let them be experts and go around and help others. I also allowed the groups to use chromebooks to research what each plant looked like.
