Goal: Students will be able to learn of their families history by creating a family tree report.

Learning Objective: Students will trace the history of a family through the use of primary and secondary sources, including photographs and documents.

Core content Standard: History-Social Science Content Standard: people Who Make a Difference Standard 2.1, Strand #1. http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/hstgrade2.asp

Materials: Dgital Camera, Poster board, Printer, Glue, scanner, paper, pencil.

Procedure: 1. Get your parents involoved - describe your assignemnt to them. 2. Gather pictures and documents of relavtives past. 3. Create a timeline to organize pictures and documents. 4. Take pictures of family that is alive. 5. Organize pictures and documents in a cascading tree format. 6. Write a 2-3 page paper about your family.

Student Product: Students will turn in a photo-report made on tag board of their family tree. they will also turn in a 2-3 page paper about their family.

Assessment: Students will present their reports in a 10-15 minute presentation. Paper will be graded according to grade level content standards.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This lesson is cross-curricular since students are not only being asked to research their families history, but they are also going to write about their family.
Research even further into your families history through archival data base in the library.
Do you have any famous ancestors? Did you notice any family or lifestyle patterns (i.e. birth order, jobs, areas of residence)?
