1. Spanish Teacher, Computer Teacher, and Librarian will collaborate on this lesson. Spanish students will create English and Spanish dramatic reading podcasts of Halloween stories to be shared with the local elementary schools.
2. Day one – Spanish Teacher & Librarian will share dramatic recordings in English and Spanish with students. Class will discuss what made the readings interesting (Tone of reader, sound effects, etc.) Students will then discuss how the effects could be made. Spanish teacher will explain to students they will be divided into groups and each group will be responsible for creating an English and Spanish dramatic reading podcast from a book they select. Next students will be divided into groups of 4 to work on their own dramatic reading project. The school Librarian will bring elementary level Halloween books for the student groups to make a selection for their project. Within their groups, students will read their selections. For homework, students will be asked to brainstorm individually overnight and come back to class with ideas to share with their group for their podcast.
3. Day Two - Computer teacher will introduce students to Tool Factory Podcasting software. Students will individually make small practice recordings demonstrating their understanding of the software. Students will work in their assigned groups on their dramatic reading ideas and create a script both in English and Spanish to use for their recording. For homework, students will be asked to collect and bring any materials they will need for their recordings.
4. Day Three & Four– Student groups will separate into pairs to create their English and Spanish versions of their dramatic reading podcasts. Students will save and post podcasts on school website.
5. Day Five –Listening Day -Teacher will play the dramatic readings for the class. Students and teachers will reflect on project discussing things that were and were not successful. Links will be shared with elementary Librarian to be played for elementary students.

Another variation of this lesson, English classes could create the English version of the podcast and Spanish classes could create a Spanish version. The classes could meet together to play and discuss how they created the different versions of the same books. The same lesson could be used with other foreign languages.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This plan includes collaboration between Spanish teacher, Computer Teacher, and Librarian. The same type lesson could be used for History where the students recorded factual historical information.
Students could create podcasts from their own stories. The class could also build a online podcast library from their foreign language recordings.
