Class Description:
Our middle school is inclusive Title I, located in an impoverished urban community of a major Texas city. I teach Grade 7 math and advise one of the school's cultural clubs. The school lacks even some basic resources due to low funding, which handicaps its mission of individualized service to make children of all backgrounds and ability levels college bound.

Needs:
Our school is chronically underfunded, which makes it hard to acquire even some of the basic technological tools, such as calculators, AV equipment, and other supplies. These items are necessary to stave off the "technological divide" experienced by many children in poor urban areas.
My Philosophy:
One of my goals is to help break down the silos that separate academic disciplines. As a math teacher, I use examples from the other subjects and use a project-based approach so students use skills they are comfortable with to explore math topics. I am a major proponent of STEAM and work regularly to integrate art and creativity into my math courses. Technology is a major tool to facilitate this.
