Class Information:
Room Number: 108
Students per Class: 60
Class Description:
We currently offer Chinese I, II, III, and IV/V. We focus on learning language through a variety of cultural activities such as calligraphy, poetry readings, and by watching Chinese films and listening to Chinese music. There is a heavy emphasis placed on using spoken Chinese in a culturally appropriate way.
Position:
Chinese teacher
Needs:
I am interested in creating a computer lab in my classroom that is uniquely designed for the learner of Chinese. Technology in the classroom would allow students to utilize e-textbooks, online learning modules, and unique digital software geared toward enhancing the Chinese language experience.
My Philosophy:
I believe that all students can learn, and learn with passion. I strive to bring my love for Chinese culture and language into the classroom each and every day.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am married to a wonderful social studies teacher and we stay busy chasing our 2 daughters around and being held captive beneath the bulk of our cats, Frisky and Java. I adore classical Chinese poetry and have a thing for Chinese pop music.
College and Degrees:
I received my undergraduate degree in Chinese from Bennington College and my Master's Degree in Chinese language and literature from the Ohio State University. OSU has created an innovative approach to language teaching that is modeled on the performance of language in context. I aim to bring this innovation in language teaching to my classes here in Vermont.
Activities:
I enjoy reading whenever possible. I also enjoy watching movies and doing arts and crafts projects. Chinese lanterns anyone?
Favorite Books:
RED SORGHUM by Mo Yan, GOD OF SMALL THINGS by Arudhati Roy, INDEPENDENT PEOPLE by Halldor Laxness, SNOW COUNTRY by Yasunari Kawabata.

"You must be the change you want to see in the world" -Gandhi
