Pewaukee High School
Class Information:
Room Number: 114
Students per Class: Varies between 15-25 per class
Class Description:
The classes I teach are part of a medium sized high school. The students taking art are creative, inquisitive and looking to expand their knowledge and for some even go onto college and study art. The art department hasn't changed that much until recently with the addition of technology based classes. The Digital Photography and Animation classes are brand new and will be taught starting in 2009-10. The Design class is already established, but lacks current modern technology. The AP Art class is also established, but because the College Board recently changed their requirements we now also need access to cameras and technology to complete the AP college portfolio.
Position:
Art Educator
Needs:
The Digital Photography, Animation and Advanced Drawing and Painting are new classes and are still being established. We need cameras, software and video equipment to support these classes. The district is building a Mac computer lab for these courses, but the additional items such as cameras, Wacom tablets, Video cameras have not been purchased.
My Philosophy:
I believe in being an artist and educator equally. I bring as much as I can to my students in terms of new technology. I think art should be hands on, but should also embrace and utilize new technology to help students. I want my students to become fully equipped for college and the job market in the 21st Century. I am a blogger, a flickr user, a facebooker, a digital photographer and always a student willing to learn and bring new ideas to my students.

Favorite Books:
It's so hard to choose one because they're like children. I've enjoyed many such as, "The Road" , "The Memory Keeper's Daughter", "The Passion of Artemesia"
Favorite Quotes:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Interests:
I enjoy photography, art, gardening, cooking, reading, knitting and spending time with my family. I am also I admit a computer geek! I love my Mac and spend time playing with Photoshop and exploring Flickr and many other sites on the Internet.
Employment History:
Taught first grade for 10 years in California. Then did Web Design for about a year both free lance and with a company in California. Director of Education at a Children's Museum in WI for 3 years. Art Teacher at both middle and high school level for the past 8 years.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love fostering the possibility of what each individual could become. The potential in each of us is extraordinary and to know that I somehow got to help a student come close to reaching their potential really energizes me. Teaching keeps me YOUNG!
