Students per Class: 850+
Class Description:
I am a Library Media Specialist in the largest elementary school in the Providence School District. We are a High-Poverty school in an urban district. My students range in from PK to Grade 6, with a Bilingual class in each grade level, as well as an ESL (English as a Second Language)class at each grade. We also have four Special Education classrooms in our school.
Position:
Library Media Specialist
Needs:
I am very involved in teaching my students how to become literate in the 21st century and exposing them to the many types of technology that exist in our Web 2.0 world today. We are in need of many tech tools, including digital cameras, podcasting equipment, software, and a multifunction printer. I have nine computers with Internet access in my library for all students to use. I'd love to use them with my students in more fun and creative ways.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I've been the Library Media Specialist at my school for my entire teaching career. The kids are great and the faculty is too. I enjoy teaching through technology and teaching my students how to use it in their lives. I think education in the 21st century can be so much fun while being very challenging at the same time.
College and Degrees:
Skidmore College - BS Elementary ED. University of RI - MLIS
Activities:
I'm involved in many school activities and sports programs.
Favorite Books:
Anything by Robert Munsch. His books are hysterical. On the adult side of things, I like James Patterson - not too deep but entertaining.
Interests:
Sports, Children's Literature, Web 2.0 Technology, blogs & wikis
Employment History:
Providence School Department 1994-Present
Why Do I Teach?:
I love to see the result of learning something new on a child's face. To me, an educator can impact the lives of many. That is what drives me to do my best each day.
