Brockport High School
Hometown:
Olean NY
Class Information:
Room Number: 115
Students per Class: 21
Class Description:
This is an AP ELA section for whom the full time teacher has expressed interest in having me conduct an action research project on integrating cell phones into classroom instruction.
Position:
Per Diem Teacher
Needs:
In rolling out a program using cell phones, it is reasonable to assume that some students would not have one. The national statistics suggest that 80% is a very reasonable planning figure for cell phone ownership in the school's community. In any given class it is unlikely that more than 5 students would not have a cell phone, so having 5 "floater" phones available for students to sign out would ensure the likelihood that when cell phones are used in the classroom, all the students will have one to use.
My Philosophy:
It sounds corny, but I believe in the transformational power of knowledge and that helping students gain access to a full cognitive tool kit is one of best things I could do for them. I'm a firm believer that there are multiple valid paths to the destination of knowledge and want to be the kind of teacher that helps his students find the way that works best for them.
Personal Information:

Favorite Books:
I have several thousand books I've read over the years, mostly for fun and tend to lean toward series more than single books: Wheel of Time, Pern, Sword of Truth, Time Traveler's Wife

“Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks.” Robert A. Heinlein
Why Do I Teach?:
I came to the realization after a number of different professional endeavors that I wanted to do something that matters in the world and I enjoy the process of communicating ideas and helping others achieve.
