My Philosophy:
I believe that engaging students on hands-on/inquiry based lessons is that way to teach science! I try to use different learning styles throughout each unit of study. I will often give choice options for assessments that focus on different learning styles. Students teach each other often in my classroom as they become the experts on different topics.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a 28 year old teacher who "fell into" teaching after coaching an inner city boys middle school soccer team. Working with kids is so much fun! I have a creative approach to teaching and my interests reflect that approach. In the summer, I make and sell art at craft shows. I also enjoy nature, hiking and outdoor "stuff" very much. My area of greatest interest in science is the environment/ecology.I have a wonderful husband who shares many of my interests--especiallygardening and walking.
College and Degrees:
BA--Calvin College in 2002 I am working on a Masters in Educational Technology from Western Michigan University.
Activities:
Gardening, Zumba, running, hiking, "art," Book club.
Favorite Books:
"Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson "Cold Tangerines" by Shauna Niequist "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller
Why Do I Teach?:
I love my students! Every day is a new day in teaching. I learn so much from my students. They inspire me to work hard and be a better person. I love to see the wonder on their faces when we study science and enjoy teaching labs/hands on activites that get us more and more interested about the world around us.
