Students will be required to choose one college that they plan on applying for. For the purpose of this lesson they will already be enrolled at the school.

This lesson will be about technology and library skills.

Students will be given as assignment for their introductory English class. They will need to create a cover letter and resume to apply for a job. They need to use library references, print and digital.

After submitting their resume, the students will be interviewed for the position.

The last portion is their thank you letter.

For this study students will need to have a jump drive to save all of their work they have done on the library computers. They will use a word processor to complete their letters. For the interview portion we will record the interview and playback for students. We can review what was done correct and areas needed for improvement.

Students and teachers will be involved in the creation of the items as well as the grading. Their peers’ will be conducting the taping and reviewing, with the teachers’ supervision.
Comments
So many students get to college and into the real world not having the proper skills. I fell it is very important that students know how to use a library and access all that they have to offer. They will continue to use libraries after they are done with schooling and they need to be aware of this. Something as simple as how to conduct yourself in an interview in not covered in real life and I feel that we as teachers need to address this with them from the start.
Follow-Up
Show videos to 11th grade and see what comments they have. Find out if other teachers or students pick up on the same errors as these classes did.
