Keywords: Skill Cues, Cue Wall, Motor Skills, Physical Education, Gross Motor
Subject(s): Technology, Health and PE
Grades K through 3
School: Armstrong Elementary School, Westborough, MA
Planned By: Nathan Jyringi
Original Author: Nathan Jyringi, Westborough
Grade Level: 3
Equipment: Digital Cameras (1 for every group of 2-5 students). Variety of balls, frisbees, mats, scarves.

Informing: Students will be told that they are going to complete a class project which will help all students in the school to remember how to correctly perform sport skills.

Activity: Students will taught how to properly perform a variety of skills during the year, including locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills. Many skills have been taught in previous grades. Near the end of the year, grade 3 students will work in groups to take pictures of each phase of several assigned skills.

For example, students may take a picture of a partner doing a roll. Picture 1: squatting down. Picture 2: hands down on mat. Picture 3: chin tucked to chest. Picture 4: backside up with back of head contacting mat. Picture 5: Finishing in squat.

Post-Activity: Teacher will select and print photos which best illustrate how to perform each skill. A large "Cue Wall" will be created of visual reminders (words and pictures) of how to perform the most important skills learned in physical education classes.

Photos will also be used online on the physical education website. A "Cue Page" will be added to the website, and online quizzes will be added which show pictures of correct or incorrect technique. Quizzes and photos can be utilized at home by parents and also during technology classes at school.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
I will work with the technology teacher to incorporate physical education into her classes by having students log on to my webpage to take the quizzes created with the photos that students have taken.
Follow-Up
Each year the cue wall will be constructed as the year goes along. Pictures will be placed on wall when that unit is taught. Updates and additions will be made each year.
