In second grade students are required to learn two and three dimensional shapes, along with their attributes. I believe that identifying these shapes in the real world is more powerful than just the classroom. My objective in this lesson is: first, to teach students what the shapes are. After they know the attributes and can recall what the shape is, I want them to go on a scavenger hunt and look for those shapes. Each group of 4 will be given a digital camera, and piece of paper for note-taking. They will go out into the school and search for 4-5 pictures of each shape and write down where they found it and what it is. We will also take the cameras outside and identify more shapes. Once they have found all their shapes they will put them into power point and print the slides. Each team will then write about how that shape is used in school and outside of school. Once the student’s have their pictures and sentences they will import the pictures into photo story. Using a recorder they will narrate each picture and continue to design their story. The groups will present their projects to the class and a CD will be made for each child to share with their families. |
