Look! It's a Book of Seashells We've Seen! Page Views: 326
|
Using reference books and the Internet, my students will look for the shells we usually find at the beach. Before we take a field trip to the beach, we'll practice taking pictures of small objects as well as downloading the pictures to a computer and inserting them into documents.
On our field trip, students will take pictures of the various shells found at the beach. They'll also take pictures of the sea life visible from the sand (minnows, jellyfish, seaweed) and landscape photos of the Gulf.
When we return to school, we'll upload the pictures into a slide show and have students work in groups to find the names and other pertinent information about each of the shells and sea life.
Students will write simple descriptions for each shell and design a layout for each page of the book. Using a word processor, we'll make a page for each book. The pages will be printed on cardstock and in color and collated into a small guide. The school has a book binding machine that will be used to bind the pages.
Each of my 45 students will receive a copy of the book.

I am fortunate to already have the necessary software (photo, Word, PowerPoint) and a printer/scanner. |
Follow-Up |
Hopefully, we'll be able to do more guide books for kids of the ecosystems of the local bays and rivers. |
