Subject(s): English/Language Arts, Science, Technology, Photography
Grade 2
School: Glen Acres Elementary School, Lafayette, IN
Planned By: Jodi Allen
Original Author: Jodi Allen, Lafayette
Objective:
Students will use observation, investigation, and prediction skills to figure out the subject of a student-created up close photo.

Each week one student will be responsible for "stumping" their classmates with an up close photo. The teacher will teach the students how to appropriately use the digital camera to make up close photos. The first mystery picture will be provided by the teacher.

Once students begin creating the up close photos, the remainder of the class will focus on using their observation and invetigation skills to make a prediction. Students will be encouraged to use their prior knowledge to make comparisons with the photo to already know textures, colors, and patterns.

Students will submit a written prediction to the weekly class photographer. At the end of the week, the student photographer will reveal a step back photo of the subject photographed.

A class discussion will allow students to share whether their predicitons were supported or not supported by the reveal of the step back photo.
