Students will learn about the various forms of pollution. The students will then be asked to think of any examples of pollution that may occur in their neighborhood. Using digital cameras, the students will be asked to identify and photograph examples of pollution within the school community. These photos will be discussed as a class. The discussion will focus on the source of the pollution, effect, and solutions to minimize the pollution. The photos will then be incorporated into a slide show to be placed on the class webpage.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Language arts classes could be involved in the development of a brochure or pamphlet that highlights the local pollution and solutions. These brochures could be distributed to the community.
Follow-Up
The students can discuss and decide what other local issues can be photo documented and develop the same awareness to those issues in a similar manner as the pollution lesson.
