1) Each month or season the teacher will provide samples of a different form of poetry to be read aloud. Literary elements of rhyme, rhythm, repetition, and alliteration will be studied as needed.

2) Students will then draw pictures to illustrate their copies of selected poems for their own individual poetry booklets.

3) Students take pictures of people, places, and events around the school to use as illustrations of their own original creations of each form of poetry to be typed using a word processing program and included in their poetry booklets.

4) Slide show presentations of original works can be used at Open House, Parent Orientation, or PTA meetings, or added to the school website.

5) At the end of the year, classroom books of original works may be bound and placed in the classroom and school libraries.
Follow-Up
Have a book-signing or authors' party at the end of the school year and invite parents as each student signs the classroom collection of original works.
