1. Students take several portraits of each other showing at least two different views of each student. One view must be a full front view while another view should be a 3/4 view.
2. Students will download the photographs taken onto a computer.
3. Students will select two photographs and print each as the same size. (black and white printing and color if possible).
4. The first photograph is cut into 1" vertical strips while the second photograph is cut into 1" horizontal strips.
5. Weave the two photographs together to create a printed self-portrait.
6. Using a "H" lead pencil ,draw an enlarged self-portrait using the grid method.
7. Select a color scheme to paint your woven self-portrait. For example one face could be done using cool colors while the other face could be done using warm colors.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students could pose in period clothing, head coverings to tie the lesson to cultural differences and history.
Follow-Up
Students create photo collage art from the pictures taken that were not used for the self-portraits.
