Students will be introduced to the concept of "shadows" through nonfiction and fiction literature. They will discover teh three compontents that are needed to create a shadow: 1. A light source 2. Something to block the light source 3. A surface for the shadow to fall upon Once the children have heard several literature books such as: Bear Shadow Nothing Sticks like a Shadow What makes a Shadow? THey will search for shadows around the school.
The next week children will take turns bring the class digital camera home and finding at least three examples around their house. The shadows can be inside or outside.
Once all the chidlrne have had a turn the photos will be processed and developed. When we create our bulletin board, the children will share how their shadows were made using the three compontents.
