Keywords: Personal Narrative
Subject(s): English/Language Arts
Grades 2 through 12
School: St Jude of the Lake School, Saint Paul, MN
Planned By: Kelly Zender
Original Author: Kelly Zender, Saint Paul
Students will be given a digital camera to take around school and at home if necessary. They will snap pictures of anything that inspires them - from their dog, to a poster, to thier sleeping father, to a sewer grate.

Once they are finished taking their pictures they will return the camera to have their pictures printed out.

They will lay out all of their photos and chose one that inspires them to write a personal narrative. This story will be about one small moment in their life.

Independantly they will write their story appropriately using page breaks.

Upon completing their story, they will again get the digital camera for a day. They will now take pictures that will illustrate each page of their story.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students could write a nonfiction piece that goes along with their science or social studies curriculum.
Follow-Up
Students could have an Author's celebration to share their stories with one another or reading buddies.
